It’s dangerous to go alone, read this.

The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past is one of the most iconic games of the franchise and a game that somehow passed me by as a kid. I am a huge Zelda fan and the first game of the series that I became hooked on was Ocarina Of Time on the Nintendo 64. Since then I have played through a number of Zelda titles such as Majoras Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and the original The Legend Of Zelda, but some how ALTTP (A Link To The Past) seemed to elude me. So when I got the amazing Snes Classic Edition, I knew I had to complete ALTTP once and for all. Although I had played bits of it before, I had never actually completed and now it was my time.

The Master Sword is back to help Link along the way.

I sat down one day, started a new game and my adventure began. From the get go I loved this game, I had played a fraction of the game before so could remember the beginning but never truly appreciated its glory. This time, I knew I was not going to stop until I completed the game and this had me enthralled in it. Hyrule looks beautiful in the game and I loved how colorful it was. The top down view is one of my favorite kinds of camera angles in games so I love how the game played out from this perspective.

I love the top down view of the camera.

The story in ALTTP is a fantastic one, there are so many different timelines in the Zelda universe with many different stories and this is one of my favorite. Zelda is held captive by the evil wizard Agahnim and our hero Link has to try and save her, I won’t go in to the story too much as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t completed the game yet but Link has a difficult road ahead of him on his quest to save Princess Zelda. I naively thought that I was close to the end of the game when things turned completely upside down with the introduction of the dark world and it was then that I realized my adventure was far from over.

I had so much fun playing through this game and after completing it, I now understand why ALTTP is held in such high regard. I enjoyed everything about it from the dungeons, boss battles, story, game play and soundtrack, I genuinely can not fault it. ALTTP is definitely one of the best games in the Zelda series and a classic that I am so happy to have finally completed.

I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on ALTTP and I would love to hear yours. I am on a mission to complete as many retro classics as I possibly can so next up on my list is another well known game that I missed out on as a kid… Secret Of Mana.

Peace out,
